Creativity and Originality: The Dying Duo {Part 1 of 4}

The human brain has an infinite capacity to create. So, the question has to be asked, why aren't we creating as much as we used to, and if we are "creating" why aren't we coming up with anything original? Not to say that absolutely nothing original is being created, because it is, there just doesn't seem to be very much of it.

Before I dive right in, let me explain something. I have a lot of opinions and thoughts on this whole creativity thing so rather than make you all read one really long post I am going to do a series of post over the next couple of weeks examining creativity and originality, why it's disappearing, and how we can get it back.

HERE WE GO!!

Let's start with Hollywood. I came across this lovely info graphic that confirmed my fears, and while it only represents the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Hollywood's lack of originality and creative values, it gives us an idea of just how quickly the creativity and originality has leaked out of the Hollywood Hills and simply run off into the ocean.
Hollywood's Waning Creativity - We also lament the lack of originality coming out of Hollywood these days.
If anything can be learned from these stats, it's that we have become increasingly comfortable with what we already know when it comes to our entertainment. And what's even worse, we are completely okay with and even support it. Do you guys know what this means?! At the rate we're going we are going to be forced to watch crappy sequels and remakes FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES!! Let's just take a moment to let that soak in. You will be watching crappy sequels to that one okay-ish movie you saw that one summer for the next 6 to 7 years. THEN just when you think it's over and you have moved on to something better (like reading books) some really awesome Hollywood producer is going to get some bright idea to remake that same okay-ish original movie that you saw that one summer AND all of it's sequels! What a horrifying world we are creating for ourselves.

In my opinion, the second worst thing you can do to an amazing movie, is give it a sequel. I feel this way for 3 main reasons:

First, if you have an amazing movie to begin with then your sequel had better be even more amazing than the original, because that is what it is being compared to. Rarely, if ever, does a sequel live up to it's predecessor, let alone do better.

Second, the sequel in which a main character from the first movie is played by a different actor in the second movie. Thaaaat's right, I'm looking at you Iron Man 2!

This is not the same person...

And third (the worst one) the sequel of the sequel...to explain my frustration, a letter to Jerry Bruckheimer...

Dear Jerry,

You brought us soaking wet Orlando Bloom, some pretty good C.G.I. technology and you made a great pirate movie that hadn't really ever been done before that was original and creative. Good job, gold star. But really, I'm begging you, STOP BEATING THE DEAD HORSE! Four movies? Four of them? Was it really necessary? Wait. Let me answer that one for you. NO IT WAS NOT! I mean sure you made some money off of them and they added a ride for you at Disney Land...oh wait... That ride was built in 1967! So really you just made a bunch of money that you could have invested in new movies and projects (of which there are plenty out there) but instead you were lazy and just added a different subtitle to the first film and sold us tickets making us think it was a different movie, when it really wasn't. And honestly, one can only go so far in a franchise before it becomes incredibly predictable and boring, you my dear friend have simply gone too far.

Now I am not going to complain to you without presenting a solution, so here it is. How about this? The next time you come up with another "Pirates of the Caribbean *insert subtitle here that explains while this one is different than the other four (except not really)*" you ditch everything and do something NEW AND CREATIVE! Crazy idea, I know, but I have faith in you.

Love,
Hannah

Obviously new movies are being made and presented to us, but if all we put our money into is the sequels and remakes then eventually, that is all we will have!

There are some extremely rare exceptions. Harry Potter being one of them. But the reason it's okay is because it stemmed from original creativity of epic proportions that 99.99% of people really do love and enjoy. Harry Potter is called a phenomenon for a reason. Things like Harry Potter just don't happen and the fact that it did happen once is a big deal, so the fact that we make a big deal about it and turned it into 8 movies is just an expansion of an idea we all relate to and enjoy.

So if giving a movie a sequel (or sequels) is the second worst thing you can do to it, what's the very worst that can be done? It's the remake of course! Constantly insulting the original work while simultaneously causing its own downfall by not living up to the original, it is the sad fate of remakes everywhere. Given, some remakes are actually okay (and sometimes, but rarely, better) compared to the originals. Its a task hard to accomplish and few ever do. Those movies that have successfully been remade, in my opinion, include, and are not limited to, The Italian Job, Hairspray, and Father of the Bride. Although remakes and the quality there of is largely a matter of opinion, there is one overall fact that stands true. Remakes come about because those who create them have simply run out of ideas, they can't come up with anything original (or if they have come up with an original idea they didn't think up anything better than a possible remake..), so they recycle.

I cannot think of a better example of a bad remake than the recent The Sound of Music, Live!. I actually have a hard time talking about it, it really bothers me. Now, granted, it was a live T.V. reproduction of the Broadway version of the original 1965 movie, and that is no easy thing to do! I commend Neil Meron and Craig Zadan (two of the greatest Broadway to Movie producers of all time) for even daring to attempt such a project. They are the reason those of us who don't live near Broadway can still experience good musicals from the comfort of our own homes and that's an amazing thing. But when you do something like taking a musical to film, it's different. It was never a film to begin with and the audience understands that there will be slight differences. With The Sound of Music Live! you are going from a movie to a Broadway show to a sort of hybrid of the two...you are sort of asking for a disaster. It would have been one thing if they had done the musical on a Broadway stage and simply filmed it and broadcast it live. I think that would have been a great success. But because they did it on a sound stage everything seemed more jumbled and confused. Of course it has to be noted that The Sound of Music Live! is a live reproduction of the musical and not the movie, and the original two have their own differences that those who have not seen both would not know about. But I think it's important to still maintain the original story line and order of things. Particularly the songs. What a jumbled, reorganized mess! I can't even. Too much went wrong.

Here in lies the problem with remakes. So much can go wrong. As the saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." When you remake a movie you are almost lying. It's as if you're saying, "Here! Look at this cool thing I re-did even though the original thing was just fine as it was." You're selling another persons creativity and ideas, just a more current version. That's stupid, that's cheating, and that's not original or creative.

So welcome to the world we now live in! Original and Creative ideas being passed up for the remakes and sequels. Of course there are plenty of original works coming out every year that are amazing. Just the last 6 months have produced some amazing films. But we have to ask ourselves some questions: How many more sequels can we watch? How many times can something be redone and remade? How long can we last in a Hollywood culture that doesn't encourage mass originality and creativity, and does encourage our movie ticket prices to rise so that they can keep on not creating original works? Would they be able to charge less if original, creative works came out more often and were more widely marketed?

I suppose only time will tell.

Thanks for reading and comment below what you think! Is Hollywood lacking in creativity and originality, why?

Happy New Year!

30 Days of Thanksgiving {Day 30}

Its the last day of November, which means it's the last day of Thirty Days of Thanksgiving! I hope everyone who participated had a wonderful experience, I know I did!

Today I am thankful for flowers. Every winter I get so sad because there aren't any beautiful flowers to look at. Flowers are just one of those things that God thought up and put on this Earth not only to make us happy, but to make our lives better as well. I love Him for that, and a bunch of other reasons too! :)

Have a Happy Day!

30 Days of Thanksgiving {Days 27&28}

I wrote my post yesterday, but for some odd reason it didn't post! So I'm posting it today!

Day 27
I am thankful for catch-up days where I can just relax and do my laundry in peace. ALSO. I saw Catching Fire today and it was perfect. I'm still freaking out. SO GOOD! AAAHH!

Day 28
Well, today as been amazing. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Today we drove up to Idaho to have Thanksgiving with my mom's side of the family. I love all of them so much! They are all such wonderful people and I love hanging out with them. I love these kinds of family gatherings in general so I thought I would make a list of some of the reasons why I love them so much!

  • Piano/Singing sessions with my cousins. We just sing all the Broadway we know by heart, and some new pop songs too. We almost always make it a point to do so when we get to see each other and I love getting to sing with some of my favorite people.
  • Dilly Beans. No, sorry, let me say that again. The so good you stuff your face and can never get enough of them, Grandma Betty's recipe, Dilly Beans. Amazing. Thanks Uncle Jim!
  • All the other food. Because it's pretty amazing too.
  • Playing with my little mini cousins who I know wont be so mini for much longer. Darn them and their cutie powers.
  • Remembering those who have left us for a time, but we will all get to see again someday. The ones without whom I would not be here today.
  • The Idaho sunset we witnessed tonight! Probably the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen. (Don't worry! I will post pictures tomorrow!)
  • Just talking and laughing together. That's pretty great too.
I love my family and I love that my life has been centered around family. It's these kinds of days that I want my future children and grandchildren to experience someday. I thank my family for making life about the people you spend it with, because really, if you have family, you have everything.

Love all of you!

P.S. The belching contest video and pictures will be up tomorrow. ;)

30 Days of Thanksgiving {Days 23, 24, 25, & 26}

Holy cow! I am such a slacker! Sorry guys! Life is just a bit crazy busy as of late. So imma jump right in!

Day 23
I am thankful for my Pinterest. Because it really is the greatest thing since sliced bread. In fact I would rather slice my own bread for the rest of my life than go without Pinterest. So that just shows how addicted I am... awesome...

Day 24
I am thankful for yummy gourmet food that I get every year from my Grandma Sarah. The woman cooks everything, and she even makes every person their own birthday cake if we are celebrating their birthday! She's amazing! And I love her!

Day 25
I am thankful that there are only 2 days of school this week because if there were more than that I might die of exhaustion.

Day 26
Today I am thankful for the fact that it is late-start and the last day of school this week. I get an extra hour of sleep and shorter classes. Its a win-win situation we have right here!

30 Days of Thanksgiving {Day 22}

Today I am thankful the little people in my life. All my cute cousins especially! They are just so sweet, kind, and cute! And oh my word, they are so smart! They are already little writers and singers and its so fun to be around their creative energy. They remind me to focus on the simple things in life and just to be happy. I love them so much! :)

30 Days of Thanksgiving {Day 21}

I am thankful that my house has power right now! Holy how the wind is getting crazy around here! Here's hoping they cancel school tomorrow. That would be very nice. But I doubt it. Oh well. One can only hope and pray for it I suppose. I am thankful I can go to school in the first place, but sometimes I just would rather sleep. Ya know?

Anyways! I hope everyone is staying safe and taking care of themselves out there where ever you live!

30 Days of Thanksgiving {Days 18, 19, AND 20}

I am a slacker. Actually I am a high school student. Therefore, sometimes I am just too busy to write stuff. BUT, that doesn't mean I wasn't thinking about what I was thankful for that day! And besides, it's the thought that counts, right? SO.. here we go!

On the 18th I was (and still am) thankful for my room. Like having a room to myself is seriously the greatest thing ever. It's peaceful. And in this crazy world, sometimes what you need is a little peace, in your piece of the world. And that is why I love my room so much! ALSO. It got painted over the summer so it is no longer a horrible greenish-tan and it's now a pretty grey. YES! :)

Yesterday I was thankful for chocolate chip cookies. Because who doesn't love chocolate chip cookies!? And if you don't, then you need some serious mental health counseling. Okay maybe not mental health counseling, just cookie therapy. I don't know. Just get some help! ;)

Today, I am thankful that even though the home button is taped over so it won't fall of and the screen is completely shattered, that I have my iPod. I love having my music with me all the time, it's seriously the best thing ever. Although I have to admit I waste a ton of time on the thing (i'm considering downsizing to just a nano) I still love its convenience. Either way. Its amazing to me that you can carry entire albums and symphonies in your pocket and I am so thankful for that.

30 Days of Thanksgiving {Day 17}

Today I am thankful for my wonderful friends! They mean so much to me and I am so thankful to have each of them in my life! I love hanging out with them, laughing with them, and going to the temple with them too! Whether we have become friends this year, or have been friends since elementary school, I am thankful for you! I have so many happy memories with you and I cant make to make hundreds more!

GO LHS!!

This basically describes us perfectly ;)

I love my friends so much! Thanks for all the good times! Here's to many more!

30 Days of Thanksgivings {Day 16}

Today I am thankful for my camera! I get to take amazing pictures and capture moments with that thing and I am so grateful for that opportunity.

I took a few pictures this morning when I woke up to snow! I actually hate the cold, but snow is so pretty I braved the conditions to get a few shots. :)

30 Days of Thanksgiving {Day 15}

Today I am thankful for good, kind people. Such as...
  • The person in my Chemistry class who makes it a point to say hi and talk to the kid who doesn't know anyone in the class.
  • The people who run Soul Pancake.
  • My parents.
  • And many others.
You know, people are generally good. And if you get to know those who are, they will make you a better person.

Also...

30 Days of Thanksgiving {Days 12 & 13}

Hi. My name is Hannah and I am recovering from waytoomuchhomeworkiyis. It's not an easy disease to deal with but I am powering through it!

Anyways! Yesterday I was (and still am) thankful for classical music and the peace an happiness it brings! Personally I love Clair de Lune, I am also a fan of The Piano Guys. Anything with just instruments and the music and I'm set! And I LOVE it!

Today I have this overwhelming gratitude for books. I don't know why! Maybe it's because I just started Hunger Games again or maybe it's because I haven't read a really good book in a while and I didn't realize how much I missed it! Either way I am thankful that there are people out there brave enough to write, it's not easy!

30 Days of Thanksgiving {Day 11}

On this Veterans Day I am extremely grateful for those who fight for our freedom. We are so lucky to have the freedoms that we do! I feel that everyday should be Veterans Day. They fight everyday, so we ought to thank them and pray for them everyday. Even in times of peace there are families relocating and soldiers leaving for training every day and they deserve out thanks and prayers as much as anyone else.

I am thankful to my relatives and ancestors who have fought for this country's freedom and I love them all the more because of their service.

I am also thankful to my neighbors who have served! They are the kindest people I know and I am happy to call them my friends.

Remember when someone serves this country, they are serving you.

Thank you to all who have served. Know that you are appreciated, loved, and prayed for.

30 Days of Thanksgiving {Days 9 & 10}

I know! I'm such a slacker! But I'm writing now!:)

Day 9: I am thankful for cheesecake because it is my favorite and it is amazing and I just love it so much! Just as a side note, I have decided that when I get married there will be cheesecake at my wedding instead of normal cake because cheesecake is better. End if story.

Day 10: I am thankful for the pretty fall leaves and the color they bring to the world! They are so pretty and I love seeing them even if it means the weather is getting colder. :)

Sorry I have been a slacker! Tomorrow's post will be better! :)

30 Days of Thanksgiving {Day 8}

I AM SO HAPPY IT IS FRIDAY! No, you guys don't even understand, I am so insanely happy it is Friday! This week has just been so crazy and all I have wanted is the weekend and now I have it! Seriously, I live for the weekends. The fact that I will get to sleep in on Saturday and Sunday is what gets me through a week of high school and no sleep. Its just perfect. I GET TO SLEEP. Many people say that 1 o'clock church sucks. But I don't have kids with a nap schedule and I love sleeping in so it's pretty much my favorite! 9 o'clock church? That's another story... HA! Just watch. They will totally switch my ward to 9 am church when January comes and you all will laugh and I will just sit there in stunned silence trying to figure out what magic spell or object I need to prevent the horror from happening.. HARRY POTTER DON'T FAIL ME NOW!!

30 Days of Thanksgiving {Day 7}

Today I am really thankful that my teachers decided to no do anything important while I was gone. No seriously, I have almost no homework from when I was sick these past two days and I am SO thankful! Also, I am thankful for my awesome 9th grade English Teacher who showed us this poem on the first day of school. Its just too funny and too true! And I have never asked if I missed anything since, I now always ask my teachers what I missed. But it's always lovely to hear that you missed nothing vital to your learning experience and that you have nothing to worry about too.

On to the poem!

Did I Miss Anything?

Tom Wayman

Nothing. When we realized you weren’t here
we sat with our hands folded on our desks
in silence, for the full two hours

     Everything. I gave an exam worth
     40 percent of the grade for this term
     and assigned some reading due today
     on which I’m about to hand out a quiz
     worth 50 percent

Nothing. None of the content of this course
has value or meaning
Take as many days off as you like:
any activities we undertake as a class
I assure you will not matter either to you or me
and are without purpose

     Everything. A few minutes after we began last time
     a shaft of light suddenly descended and an angel
     or other heavenly being appeared
     and revealed to us what each woman or man must do
     to attain divine wisdom in this life and
     the hereafter
     This is the last time the class will meet
     before we disperse to bring the good news to all people
          on earth.

Nothing. When you are not present
how could something significant occur?

     Everything. Contained in this classroom
     is a microcosm of human experience
     assembled for you to query and examine and ponder
     This is not the only place such an opportunity has been
          gathered

     but it was one place

     And you weren’t here

Have a happy day!

30 Days of Thanksgiving {Day 6}

I am still sick today. So this one is going to be short too...

Today I am thankful for Claude Monet and his painting entitled "Poppy Field." I love it and I also love that we have a replica of it at my house. :) It is so pretty and I love it!

30 Days of Thanksgiving {Day 5}

I am sick today so this post is going to be short and sweet. :)

Today I am thankful for sunshine and the pretty yellow house that has been built down the road. Also cute and fuzzy ducklings and baby chicks and their delicious relative, Marshmallow Peeps. And Minions.

Today I am thankful for yellow. :)

30 Days of Thanksgiving {Day 4}

Today I am thankful for Daylight Savings time. No I take that back. I am thankful for electricity. Let me explain. I love sleep, and as a high school student, I love it even more that the average Joe. So when I get what feels like an extra hour of sleep I am a pretty happy camper. Scratch that I am a happy person. I hate camping. But here's the thing. To get the extra hour. We have to loose that hour again in March. Now I completely understand why Daylight Savings time was important back when Benjamin Franklin came up with it, but it is totally pointless now because we have something else from good old Ben, electricity. So really, Ben made his first great idea completely and totally irrelevant with his second idea and apparently only the good states of Arizona and Hawaii have figured that out. Yes, in the past DST had its purpose, but now the only purpose it serves is to confuse people and make you late for school/work/church/everything. There is simply no reason for it to be used anymore. It's not like getting rid of it would be a big problem either. Just choose the time you want to be on (which I am sure the politicians in Congress will find a way to argue over..) and then once you are on that time, don't change it again! It's not like we are switching what side of the road we're driving on, it's about making life easier, not harder!

Anyways, there is my rant on DST. I really am thankful for electricity and all the modern technology we have to make life a little easier. It's pretty great!

(Hopefully some politician will see this and find a way to get DST removed from existence, but if not, we shall soldier on.)

30 Days of Thanksgiving {Day 3}

Hello and Happy Sunday!

Today I am going to tell you why chocolate is like reading your scriptures and the the gospel in general!

I will begin with a quote from the beloved Forrest Gump, "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." Just as this is true with life, I have argue that it is also true with reading the Bible and Book of Mormon. You never know what bit of inspiration or awesome one liner you are going to get, but you will always get something! However, in order to get anything you must act first. You must actively choose to eat the chocolate (read your scriptures) and then you will get to enjoy the taste (blessings) from your choice. So don't forget to eat your daily chocolate!

Photo via Google Images
Now life is not always easy, but there is a way to make it "go down easier." I present to you one of my favorite scenes from The Princess Bride.

Westley had to take the pill to simply live, and we must endure (and ENJOY) life too. But just as in Westley's case, chocolate can help the pill of life go down a little easier. Don't let the R.O.U.S's of life get you down! Make your life a little easier by eating some chocolate (growing in the gospel) and watch things start to look up!

And finally, I present to you all two real life facts about chocolate and why you really should be both actually eating chocolate and reading the scriptures.

  1. One chocolate chip can give a person enough energy to walk 150 feet (source) thus even if you just read one verse in your scriptures, you are still gaining some spiritual energy! EVERY VERSE COUNTS!
  2. Eating dark (more pure) chocolate can reduce your risk of heart disease by 1/3, doing so has also been proven to reduce your risk of getting cancer. SO GO EAT SOME CHOCOLATE! Not only will you be helping your physical body, but by eating some spiritual chocolate full of gospel doctrine every day, you will be better off spiritually as well. (source)
In closing I would just like to say how grateful I am for the Gospel of Jesus Christ, His true church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and the Book of Mormon. Also, I am thankful for chocolate, I mean, who doesn't like chocolate!?

Thanks for Reading!

30 Days of Thanksgiving {Day 2}

Today I am thankful for music! I love it so much! Sadly, I do not have much time to write today, but I shall write something none the less.

Lately I have taken a liking to classical music. I like to listen to it while I do my homework or chores or while I'm doing anything for that matter! It just makes everything better! My personal favorite is Clair de Lune by Debussy. I love it! It's just perfect and I am so thankful that I have the ability to hear and listen to it! The End.

I'm sorry today's post is super short! I promise tomorrows is going to be AWESOME though!
Hint: It will involve chocolate, The Princess Bride, and the gospel. So basically what more could you ask for!?

30 Days of Thanksgiving {Day 1}

Well hello everyone!

Today is the day! It's the first day of 30 Days of Thanksgiving! YAY!! I am so excited! Okay, enough exclamation points. On to the post.

Today I am thankful for my amazing family! I love them so much and I really enjoy being with them! Now when I say family, I don't just mean my immediate family, I mean my whole family! My 33 cousins, 12 aunts and uncles, and my Gran and Pops. And that's just my Mom's side!

My Grandma and Grandpa Davis have always done an amazing job at making life about family. I really admire them for that. If I have learned anything from my grandparents, it is that life isn't about things, it's about family. And I owe them everything simply for teaching me that.

Whenever we have family parties I get so excited! I love getting to see all of my aunts and uncles and adorable cousins. We have so much fun eating dilly beans and pistachios among other things while putting together puzzles and playing with cute little cousins. This last summer we had a family reunion and it was probably the best 2 weeks of my life! It was good food and good fun with good people. What more could you ask for!?

Good Food

Good Fun

Good People

I love my family and I am so very thankful for them and the happiness they bring to my life! Enjoy your family, love them, and spend time with them, because life is short. You can't take any of your possessions with you, but through the Plan of Salvation you can be with your family forever. And I don't think I could choose any better people to spend eternity with than these wonderful people! I LOVE YOU ALL!

It Is SO Over & Other News

This whole Blogtember thing is just too much work, and as you can see, I have quit doing it anyways. I just wasn't inspired by the prompts. So it is SO over.

A lot has been going on in my life! School is crazy, but not as crazy as it was. I dropped my AP US History class. I just couldn't live a healthy life when I had two hours of homework every night just for one class. Its was just too much! So now I am just in Honors US History. The teacher is great and I have a TON of friends in that class. So it's all good! :)

I just have to say I don't understand those people who have 4 AP classes, the school play, and a job. Do you just not sleep? Are you a robot? Do you have a homework slave who does it all for you? Are you insane? Are you even human? Either way, I hope you don't die of exhaustion or go crazy and end up in a loony bin somewhere.

I have been absolutely LOVING my Interior Design class. For those of you who don't know, I want to be an Interior Designer when I am older. This means that I HAVE to go to Utah State University because they are the only school in the state that offers a Bachelor of Interior Design (BID) program. (And I REALLY don't want to go out of state, it's too much work and it cost too much.) This also means that I have to get a 32 on the ACT if I want a full ride... So yay for ACT Saturday study sessions with my ACT book and my kitchen table. Ew.

Now for my mini gripe session:

I have a basement bedroom. My mother does not. My mother controls the thermostat. I do not. It gets cold in the basement before it gets cold upstairs. I get really cold at night. My mother does not. Now I know that she had a basement bedroom when she was growing up. So I know she knows what it's like to be freezing. But now that she has been upstairs for so many years, I feel she has forgotten how horrible it actually is. So, this is my petition to her to have a stay in the basement this weekend and really feel how horrible it is all over again. Then maybe, just maybe (probably not), she will start to turn the heater on at night for the basement dwellers. She did turn on the heater for like five minutes last night, but that so doesn't count because five minutes is just barely enough time to get the cold air out of the vents and to actually start blowing hot air. So yeah. that's my gripe for the day.

ANYWAYS. I am excited to announce that I will be doing my 30 Days of Thanksgiving posts again this year! Starting November 1st I will be writing about one thing I am thankful for every day in the month of November. Feel free to join me, you don't have to have a blog! Post it on Facebook or Twitter, or even just write it in your journal. Just be thankful! I promise it will bless your life!

Have a happy day!

{BLOGTEMBER} Day 9

Today I am supposed to post a self portrait. Now, I don't draw very well... No. I take that back, I don't draw faces very well. So I will post the modern self portrait: The Selfie.

 I have to say I am proud this is one of the very few selfies I have taken. There are some people who take like 20,000  every day and I just think, "Oh my, self obsessed much?" But ya know, it's whatever. Take as many selfies as you want, just don't be surprised if I unfollow you or hide your FB posts. It just gets a bit obnoxious after a while. :)

On another note: It's the homecoming game tonight! Go Lancers!

{BLOGTEMBER} Day 8

Thursday, September 12: Discuss ways that blogging or social media has changed you.

Blogging and social medial has changed my life in many ways. I think when it comes to social networks I enjoy the fact that I can communicate with family out of state or those I don't see often. But I often find myself wasting chunks of time checking Facebook and Twitter, and i'm quite sure that if I had no Facebook or Twitter, I would get a lot more done in a day. But I don't delete them because they have positive aspects as well.

Blogging is another story. I have never once regretted the time I have spent within the blogging world. Never. And thus I look at it as a purely positive influence in my life. What I read and write here is productive. It gets my mind moving and thinking in ways it normally doesn't and I love that. The blogging community is so fun and I definitely plan on keeping it as a regular part of my life.

Thanks for reading!

Hannah

P.S. Sorry it's kind of short today! I have quite the stack of homework to do. Oh joy...

{BLOGTEMBER} Day 5/6

So I skipped yesterday because I had writers block, and i was tired, and it was Temple Tuesday today so I had to sleeeeeep. So I am making it up today! :)

Day 5

So, I took this personality test and I accidentally exited out of the website, and I am too lazy to take it again so I am just going to tell you what it basically said.

Basically, it told me that I am an introverted control freak who likes to write everything down.

And now I tell you what I think about that. I do admit that I have my introverted moments, but I don't get anxiety in public or anything like that. I have a lot of friends and I enjoy hanging out, but I also enjoy time to myself. I consider myself an even mix of both. Now they didn't actually say "control freak" but that's basically what they said. I enjoy having my day planned out and I enjoy when it goes according to plan, okay? And yes. I write a lot of stuff down. I also draw a lot. Happy?

Also I am slightly sarcastic.

Day 6

Tuesday, September 10: Describe a distinct moment when your life took a turn.

Oh, did I mention I still have freaking writers block? Because I do, so I will keep it very simple and a bit cryptic as well.

Okay, here we go.
Here's how it went.
Sat us down, gave us some fudge, and then dropped the (expected on my part) bomb.
The End.

Figure that one out!

P.S. I still eat fudge. Duh. It's chocolate. Why wouldn't you eat it?

{BLOGTEMBER} Day 4

Friday, September 6: A story about a time you were very afraid.

Okay so here's the deal. I. HATE. SPIDERS. Like, Ron Weasly scared of spiders.So.. I have decided to tell this story, HARRY POTTER STYLE!

The Spiders

So this one day I walk into my room and I see a spider. Now this wasn't just any spider. It was HUGE. You guys I Solemnly SWEAR that it was totally one of Aragog's children.

And it is just sitting there on my bedroom door like "Oh hey girl! Just hanging here for a while and then I will probably kill you in your sleep by sucking out your soul like a dementor because that's what we spiders do if you don't kill us." You know, totally chill about it.

So here I am staring at this giant spider and my mind is going a million miles an hour, the adrenaline rushes, and almost in slow motion (well actually it really was in slow motion because if you move what ever the spider is on too quickly it might jump off and attack). I inched my way out of my room and ran upstairs as fast as I could. I grabbed my little brother. Okay, yes, he is younger than me. I am running to my younger, comfortable with killing bugs, brother. He came down to my room and the battle that ensued looked a little something like this...

And Harry My brother won! Voldemort The Spider was defeated and that was the end of it.

OR WAS IT?

1 day later....

BAM!

ANOTHER ONE!

Me:

Rupert Grint aka Ron Weasley

But this time it was worse.

IT WAS ON THE CEILING.

ABOVE MY BED!

I actually found it as I was about to go to bed. So basically I slept on the couch that night. And the night after that. Basically I didn't sleep in my room until the exterminator came and

KILLED

EVERY

LAST

ONE

The End.

19 weeks later

I have gone back to Hogwarts (Actually my school is nothing like Hogwarts, I just say that to make myself feel better.) and I am going to complete my time here. I will probably go into Interior Design (House Elf  Equality Activist and later Ministry of Magic Department of Magical Law Enforcement). And then eventually marry the love of my life in the temple. (Probably a very attractive redhead)

The spiders have not bothered me for 19 weeks. All is well.

P.S. What if the spider had killed me you ask?

Well...

{BLOGTEMBER} Day 3

Thursday, September 5: Pass on some useful advice or information you learned and always remembered.

All right folks! I have three pieces of advice that I have never forgotten. One comes from a crazy, psycho, guilt-ridden lady. Another from my Grandfather. And one from a 4'9" Power Tumbler and Power Blogger. So lets jump right in shall we?

In the 9th grade I took a theater class my first semester. Traditionally the first semester theater class puts on what is fondly referred to as "Dinner Theatre". Simply put, you eat dinner...while you watch theatre. SO CREATIVE I KNOW RIGHT? ;) The theatre you are watching is actually scenes from William Shakespeare's various plays. Each student in our class was given a role (or in the guys cases multiple roles seeing as there was a guy to girl ratio of about 1 to 5 in the class) and I was selected for the role of Lady Macbeth. I performed the scene where she is sleepwalking and freaking out because she thinks she has blood on her hands. Anyways. The one line of that entire scene that has always stuck with me (Even though I still have the whole thing memorized..) goes as follows,

"What's done cannot be undone."

Being the slightly OCD person that I am, I sometimes freak out if I'm not somewhere on time, or something isn't just right. This line, again and again, reminds me that what's happened is done. Move on. In other words, you're going to be late, so deal with it as it comes and chill out! It really is a great thing to remember. We cannot change the past, but we can roll with the punches and live our lives with the knowledge that,

"Everything will be okay in the end, and if it's

not okay, it is not the end."

-Dennis Davis

(My awesome grandpa)

My third piece of advice comes from my dear friend Whitney. When ever any of our friends are dealing with a problem, she simply says 3 words.

"Pray about it."

It really is the greatest solution. If you are having a hard time, if you are frustrated in school or at work, if you just don't know what to do. Just pray about it! Our Heavenly Father want's to help us and is there to listen and love us! So give him a "call" and let him help you with your troubles.

{BLOGTEMBER} Day 2

Wednesday, September 4, 2013 If you could take three months off from your current life and do anything in the world, what would you do?

If I could take three months off from my current life and do anything in the world I would TRAVEL! My life goal (aside from being sealed in one of these gorgeous temples) is to travel to all seven continents. That's right! ALL OF THEM. I've already got North America (obviously..I live here..), I just need South America, Europe, Antarctica, Australia, Asia, and Africa. And I think I could do them all in three months if I had to. Of course I would need some major cash. Getting to Antarctica ain't cheap ya know!

I think I would start with South America and visit Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (and see the Cristo Redentor statue), then go to Venezuela and see Angel Falls, and then go to Machu Picchu, Peru. I think they would both be amazing places to visit, experience, and learn more about!

After South America I would travel to Antarctica (Whoa! Talk about climate change!) and hang with the penguins! I would take a cruise from South America down to King George Island and Hope Bay. It will take about 15 days to return back to South America, but it will be SO worth it! I mean... PENGUINS!

Photo from Google Images

After Antarctica I will fly to Africa and start in Zimbabwe at Victoria Falls. Then I would love to go to Ethiopia and do some service helping at an orphanage.

From Africa I would go to Europe. England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Germany, the works!

After Europe It's on to Asia. I definitely want to go to the Philippines because my mom lived there for a while while she was growing up. I also want to go to Japan and China!

China

After Asia I will head to the outback! Australia is my last stop on the list. I just have 4 words. Koala Bears and Kangaroos.

So that's what I would do if I had three months off from everything! Remember to chase your dreams, because they aren't just going to fall into your lap, silly!

Sorry, I Suck.

So this whole take a picture of every sunrise and sunset for the entire summer thing, isn't working out. I have discovered that I have become immune to the sound of my alarm clock. My brain has blocked out the sound. So there you have it. I will not be doing the whole picture taking thing any more. However I will be blogging more! Sorry I haven't been on in a while! I have been busy with all the crazy going on in my life right now. BIG CHANGES are happening! asdfghjkl;!!! So much to do! Summer it WAY too short! But you have to make the best of it right? So that's exactly what I am going to do. :)

Love you all!

{In Between} Days 2 & 3

 Sunrise on June 11, 2013

So I am combining the 11th and 12th of this month because I did the same thing on both days.

I cleaned my room.

Now this is no small feat. It is actually quite a production and a tiring one at that! I am, sadly, still not done, but I  am so close! I will be posting some "After" pictures when I am all done, but for now, here are the "Before" pictures!

WARNING:
THE FOLLOWING IMAGES MAY BE DISTURBING

So yeah... This has been my project for the past 2/3 days. It may seem like something that could be done in a day of hard work. But remember that I have to dust all of those shelves, and the shelves in my bed, and the 2 windowsills, AND the shelves at the top of my closet. Then I have to vacuum... EW. So much work... but It will be worth it when I am done, (and I'm SOOO close!!)

So this is what I have been working on for the past 2/3 days. I hope you found it totally entertaining... ;) And if you didn't, here is a video of a really cute kid.

And if that doesn't entertain you... then there's this guy...

ENJOY! :)
